The Nevermore Tree is a tree in the Village of Fowl Devotees.
Description[]
The Nevermore Tree is a large tree situated near Hector's barn and house, where the crows of the Village of Fowl Devotees spend their nights. The tree is large enough to completely conceal an elephant, three horses, and an opera singer behind its trunk.[1] (The tree is slightly smaller in the TV Series.)[3]
The crows' pattern of roosting in the tree at night and at Fowl Fountain in the mornings led to Duncan and Isadora Quagmire using the crows to send messages to the Baudelaire orphans while they were staying with Hector.[1]
Trivia[]
- The use of the word "nevermore" is an allusion to Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven," in which the titular bird repeats the phrase "nevermore" throughout.
- Both Ravens and Crows- like the ones that roost in the Nevermore Tree- are part of the subspecies Corvid, though ravens are larger.
- Lemony Snicket found a passage from Little House in the Big Woods tangled in the branches of the tree.[2]
