Mount Fraught

Mount Fraught is the highest peak in the Mortmain Mountains. Its frozen waterfall is notorious for being Stricken Stream's headwater. In other words, it is the source of the river that only flows if the ice is pierced for a number of times.

Mount Fraught is home to the Snow Gnats, and the original home of the Volunteer Fire Department. A V.F.D. Headquarters was stationed nearby, but it was burnt to the ground by the Man with a Beard but No Hair and the Woman with Hair but No Beard not long before Violet, Klaus, and Quigley arrived.^[1]

Jerome Squalor mentions to the Baudelaire orphans that he had climbed Mount Fraught with Beatrice Baudelaire when they were younger.^[2]

It was an annual tradition for the Snow Scouts to hike to the top of Mount Fraught to celebrate False Spring.

The waterfall on the mountain freezes in the winter, and leads directly to the Stricken Stream.^[1]
