Lemony Snicket Wiki

As Kit Snicket had mentioned, the Hotel Preludio was a lovely place, and I am happy to report that it is still standing, like a small mercy.

The Hotel Preludio is a hotel similar to the Hotel Denouement which the Baudelaire Family visited at one point in time.

Description[]

The hotel is described by Lemony Snicket as a lovely place, with a ballroom with famous chandeliers shaped like enormous jellyfish, which move up and down in time to the music played by the orchestra. There is a bookstore in the lobby specializing in the work of American novelists of the realist school, and a restaurant that is known to serve dinner rolls. There is also an outdoor swimming pool, described as beautiful and with reflections of the hotel windows shimmering on it.[1]

The hotel was visited for a weekend by the Baudelaire Family. Sunny Baudelaire recalls having carrots for breakfast, and first learning to blow bubbles in the pool. The family also played a prank, lead by Bertrand Baudelaire, in which they pressed every button in the elevator.

At the current time, the hotel is still standing and working.[1]

Trivia[]

  • A preludio is a word which here means a "musical prelude."[2]
    • This could potentially connect it to the Hotel Denouement, as while the Preludio is the prelude, a Denouement is the final act of a plot in which everything comes to a climax.
  • The hotel's name was used by Sunny Baudelaire as a code to tell her siblings what to do to be able to save people from the fire that she had suggested starting.[1]
