The Quagmire family is made up of Duncan, Isadora and Quigley (triplets) along with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Quagmire. They originally lived in the Quagmire Mansion, and were very wealthy due to the Quagmire Sapphires. Their house was burnt down by a tremendous fire which killed both Mr. and Mrs. Quagmire. According to The Daily Punctilio, the Quagmire estate is currently under care of "the city's sixth most important financial adviser (Esme Squalor).[1] It is unknown if Esmé still holds control of the estate due to the question of her survival in the burning of Hotel Denouement.
The definition of a 'quagmire' is another word for a mire, an unstable kind of liquefied soil similar to quicksand; however, it was more likely chosen as the surnames of the second extended family mentioned due to its extended meaning of 'a situation that is difficult to get out of'[2]
